Eugene Edwin Matt, age 81 died Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Clermont
Mercy Hospital. He was born April 30, 1928 in Norwood, OH the son
of Eugene and Florence Green Matt. He went to grade school in
Allison, Williams, North Norwood, St. Matthew, St. Elizabeth, and
Amity. He went to Norwood High School and while attending worked at
Cincinnati Tool Co. as a tool grinder and in the shipping
department along with working at Cincinnati Milling Co. until being
drafted into the Army on October 15, 1950 and stationed in Germany
in the 4th Infantry as a gunner with a water cooled machine gun. He
was in the 1st division to join NATO and was part of a New York
ticker tape parade. He was discharded from Indian Gap, Pennsylvania
and returned to work at Fischer Body. He was preceded in death by
his wife, Helen Nicely Matt, whom he married March 1953 in
Lawrenceburg, Indiana, and his daughter, Peggy Abney. He is
survived by granddaughter, Michelle (Bill) Smith, great
granddaughters, Heather and Emily Smith, sister, Shirley (the late
Bill) Little, nephew, Larry Little and great grand nephews Lenny
and Larry Little II. Services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 9,
2010 at Evans Funeral Home in Milford. Visitation will be Monday,
6:00 to 8:00PM. Entombment with military honors will be in
Graceland Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
