Bobbie Jo Paul
PAUL, BOBBY JOE (nee Hargett), 81, died peacefully on Monday, April 9, 2012,
with her children at her side at Hospice of Cincinnati.
Bobby Joe was born on July 12, 1930 in Foster, KY to Edna Mae Crawford and Homer
Hargett, raised in Cincinnati, Ohio by her aunt and uncle, Icie and Lou Towles,
after her mother's death when Bobby Joe was just a few months old. She was a
big personality with a passion for life. Earning a degree from Deaconess
Hospital Nursing School class of 1951 as a Registered Nurse was one of the
accomplishments that she wove into her colorful life - starting as an ER nurse
and moving into long term care over her 45- year working life. Except for a
brief time in Mineral Wells, TX while her first husband William F. Sontag served
in the Army, Bobby Joe lived her entire life in the Greater Cincinnati area.
Her greatest quality was her total commitment to living in the moment. She was
attracted to all things that glittered and sparked. She loved music -- from
Shirley Bassey to Tim McGraw--was a fan of Turner Classic Movies and HGTV. She
was a "regular" at the Beverly Hills Super Club in its heyday. She travelled,
became a ham radio operator, raised Great Danes, played piano by ear, and loved
to paint.
Bobby Joe was preceded in death by her second husband of 34 years, John H Paul
Sr. in 1997 and her daughter, Kathy Jo Sontag in 1959. She is survived by three
siblings, Leona Tapp, Melburn Hargett, and Dorothy Richerson; three children,
Donna Sontag Grummich, Stephen William Sontag, Karen Sontag Harrington, all of
Cincinnati; eight grandchildren, Emmet Grummich, Leah Grummich, Ciara Sontag,
Adrianne Sontag, Tiffany Sontag, Brandy Ostendorf, Justin Lehr, Charity Distel;
and seven great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held for family and friends on Friday, April 13 at
3:00 PM at Graceland Memorial Gardens Chapel in Milford, Ohio. Arrangements:
in lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Deaconess Scholarship Fund and Hospice
of Cincinnati.
