Bertha Anne Williams Topie was born on August 15, 1928 in Edwardsburg, Michigan to Homer and Bertha Williams.
Mom attended Michigan State University - East Lansing, majoring in physical education. There she met her future husband, Carl Quentin Topie. Anne and Carl were married by a friend of the family "Uncle Bob" on March 12, 1949. The honeymooners then celebrated their marriage by having to study for and take final exams the next day! They continued to celebrate their life together for more than 65 years.
Anne and Carl had four children together: Chuck his wife Rosemary, Kath her husband Mike, Jane with late husband Mike, and Jim his wife Julie. She was a devoted Grandmother of Jennifer, Sara, Katie, Jared, Erik, and Nate. She was also very proud to be a Great Grandmother of six wonderful great grandchildren: Abby, Savannah, Chase, Haley, Alex, and Rivers.
Mom was a resident of Milford, Ohio for 65 years. During that time Mom was a loving and caring woman to friends and family. She never met a stranger and will be missed by all. She was an avid reader, and loved to travel.
At first, with 4 children, mom was a stay-at-home mother, like so many other mothers at that time. She did help Dad as a secretary with his wholesale business. Once the baby of the family (me) was going to elementary school, Mom got a job as a playground supervisor at Milford South Elementary School. She also worked in the school lunchroom and library. She started working as a librarian at the old Milford Library on Water Street in Old Milford, until it moved to the "Egg Coop" across from the Milford Shopping Center, and once again moved to the old IGA building on 131. After retirement from the library system, she went to work at the Milford Area Chamber of Commerce, where she worked for 10 years.
Mom was a volunteer at the Milford-Miami Township Library. She helped with the library's book sales.
Since dad was the Public Relations and member of the Society of Third Infantry Division U.S. Army and Syrian Shrine, Mom traveled with dad to the various functions, dinners, dances, conventions, etc. They traveled all over the U.S., and also went to Europe for the 50th anniversary of D Day.
Mom was still living at home until her last day of life. We, as a family, decided to keep her at home, in familiar and comfortable surroundings. She had her granddaughter, Katie, as a main caregiver, and 3 other women taking care of her 24/7. While in hospice care, Mom died peacefully in her sleep on June 29, 2019.
Visitation will be held Friday July 5th from 10:00 AM until time of Celebration of Life service at 11:00 AM at the Evans Funeral Home, 741 Center St., Milford, OH 45150. In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to the Miami Township Library Volunteers, 5920 Buckwheat Road, Milford, Ohio 45150.
