Raymond E. Singleton, age 91 of Georgetown, formerly of Camp Dennison and Milford area, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2020 at the Veterans Home in Georgetown. He was born September 22, 1928 in Camp Dennison, the son of Homer and Flora (nee Fowler) Singleton. He was a graduate of Terrace Park High School, and joined the U.S. Marines in 1946. Ray spent the next 20 years as a Marine serving in Quindao, China to assist Chiang Kai-Shek's government in the surrender and repatriation of Japanese soldiers. At some point, Ray was stationed in Korea. As a Sgt. he was assigned to the 1st Marine Air Wing in Po-Hang-Dong, South Korea and received the Korean Service Medal. He was deployed to Vietnam in August of 1965 near Danang. The mission was to protect the vital U.S. Marine Corps installation where he extended his tour in Vietnam and was deployed back to Vietnam at least twice more over the years. Ray met his wife, Mildred in Philadelphia in 1956 and they married in New York on October 1, 1960. Mildred preceded him in death November 17, 1983. He is survived by his brothers: William Singleton and Harley Singleton and preceded by his brother; Kenneth Singleton and sister; Joyce "Boots" Iles. A graveside service will be held Monday, May 11, 2020 at Greenlawn Cemetery, with military honors. Jeff Iles will officiate.
