Anna Marie Gonzalez née Moellers passed away in Cincinnati, OH on January 11, 2021 at the
age of 89. Anna Marie was born October 10, 1931 in Covington, KY. She was the first child of
Hermann and Anna Moellers. On April 22, 1957 she married Carlos Gonzalez at St. Johns
Catholic Church in Covington, KY. She was an alumni of Notre Dame Academy in Covington,
KY. She was the first person in her family to go to college and she earned Bachelors degree in
music and education at the University of Cincinnati and later a Masters degree in School
Administration from University of Southern California. After her marriage, she moved to Spain
and taught elementary school at the U.S. military instillations. After the death of her husband
in 1998, she move to Turkey and once again taught the children of the military members
stationed in Izmir, where she ultimately retired. After retirement, she volunteer her time with
Saint Vincent De Paul Charities, the Art Museum of Cincinnati and was a parishioner of St.
Andrews Catholic Church in Milford. She was an avid knitter, reader and traveled as often as
possible to see her children. She loved to create art and leaves works ranging from water
colors and oils to ceramics and fiber pieces. Her two greatest passions were children and
photography. She particularly loved to photograph flowers of all shapes and colors; however,
her greatest passion was always children. Her own children always first, the children she
taught and the NICU babies she cuddled at both Cincinnati Childrens Hospital and Mercy
Hospital. She was a natural with children and was often given the children who needed the
most help in school and in the hospital. If we are endowed with super powers, that was hers.
She could teach the children no one could reach and she could sooth the babies most in need
of healing.
She leaves behind her four children and their spouses, Carlos and Janice Gonzalez, Maria and
Michael Goedde, Hermann Gonzalez, Anna Marie and Derek Ekiss. Her grandchildren Andrew,
Christopher, Carlos, Adrian, Steven, Maria and Annaliese. Great grandson Sebastian and his
little brother.
Her funeral mass will be held at Old Saint Marys Church, 123 E 13th St, Cincinnati OH 45202
at 9:30 am and then a private burial to follow at Saint Johns Catholic Cemetery, 1 St Johns
Road, Fort Mitchell, KY 41011. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that donations be made
to The Society of St. Phillip Neri 123 E 13th St, Cincinnati OH 45202.
Our mother was a formidable woman. If a door closed she found another to open, she was
unstoppable. She loved her family more than herself. She ensured a good life for her children,
making sure each went to college. She relied on God every day of her life and her rosary was
never far from her hands.
She LIVED her life. And what a beautiful life it was.
