Endowed with a curious and analytical mind and a passion for thermodynamics, he received several patents and made essential contributions to multiple commercial and military aircraft engine designs over the course of his many happy years at General Electric. Although he retired in 1991, he enjoyed staying in touch with his former colleagues through reunions and weekly lunches up to his passing. After a health scare in his 40s, Armando began to exercise and exercise seriously, running and completing the New York City Marathon at his first attempt at the age of 61. He was a daily visitor at the General Electric Fitness Center into his mid-90s, where he amazed and inspired others with his stamina and exercise routine that included weightlifting and long-distance swimming, a love he developed as a young lifeguard at Jones Beach in Long Island, New York. He loved crossword puzzles, big band, and Tony Bennett music, and was a fierce opponent in any game of dominoes. He was also an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds, and his retirement was filled with watching and attending his favorite team’s games with family and friends.
