Barbara Ann Knechtly went home to be with the Lord on October 11, 2026. She was born on December 6, 1946, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and has lived a life filled with love, dedication, and adventure. She began her journey in the heart of Ohio, graduating from Deer Park High School in 1965. There, she met her soulmate and the love of her life, Teddy Knechtly, setting the stage for a lifetime of cherished memories and accomplishments.
Barbara has shared a remarkable 61-year marriage with her devoted husband, Teddy. Together, they have built a beautiful family and created a life filled with shared experiences, family adventures, and travel. Their love has taken them across the United States, as they have called Ohio, New York, Hawaii, and Michigan home over the years.
Barbara's family has always been the cornerstone of her life. As a passionate mother and grandmother, she has delighted in planning fun and memorable days for her children and grandchildren. Her five children, Steven (Juliet), Brian (Fran), Jennifer (Jim), Amanda (Ben), and Amy (Droo), have been blessed with her unwavering love and support. Her legacy is further enriched by her 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, each of whom has felt the warmth of her nurturing spirit.
Barbara began her career at McAlpin's Department Store once her youngest child started school, after being a stay-at-home mom for years. Her dedication to friendly and thoughtful customer service was evident throughout her time at both McAlpin's and Lion's Department Stores, where she was frequently recognized for her excellence and received numerous awards.
Barbara's life has been a testament to living fully and embracing adventure. She has always been up for any fun endeavor, from camping, jet skiing, and snorkeling to indulging her love for roller coasters. She loved chocolate and anything related to her favorite book, Gone with the Wind. Her passion for exploring new places led her to travel extensively with Teddy and family, often finding time to visit a lighthouse and spend sunny days on the beach.
Her personal qualities of dependability, kindness, and respect for everyone have left a lasting impact on all who have known her. Barbara's meticulous nature ensured that she always prepared thoroughly, whether for a simple family outing or a grand adventure. Barbara's life is a vivid tapestry of love, laughter, and devotion, a testament to a life well-lived and cherished by all who have had the privilege of knowing her.
Her family will receive friends at Evans Funeral Home in Milford on Saturday, October 17th from 10:30 AM until time of memorial services beginning at 12 PM.
The family would welcome donations to Alzheimer's Association as an alternative to flowers if desired.
