Betty Mae Surkamp was born on February 26, 1950, in Middlesboro, Kentucky. She passed away in her home surrounded by her family in Milford, Ohio on Wednesday, April 27, 2022. She leaves behind her loving husband Fred J. Surkamp, daughter Heather R. Hurff, son-in-law Ryan M. Hurff, and the joy of her life, two grandchildren, Ella R. Hurff and Rocco J. Hurff. She also leaves behind her sisters Martha Yeary (Ray), and Judy Grout (John). Betty was preceded in death by her parents Howard Rains and Bessie Rains, brothers, Joe (Mildred), Kenneth (Geneva), Howard Jr., sisters Clauetta Duncan (Joe), Dorothy Pendleton (Ed), and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and friends. Betty was known for her generosity and love of animals and nature. She had a smile and laugh that was contagious, and she had the ability to make everybody’s day seem a little bit brighter. She worked very hard on decreasing the stray cat population through the spay and neuter clinic at Ohio Alleycat Resource (O.A.R.). In place of flowers, donations can be made to either the Ohio Alleycat Resource or The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute located at The Ohio State Univeristy campus. Family will receive friends at Evans Funeral Home, Milford, on Wednesday, May 4th from 9:30 AM until time of funeral services beginning at 11 AM. Burial will immediately follow at St. Andrew Cemetery.
