Bobby Eugene Saylor

February 8, 1947-October 1, 2024

Bobby Saylor, aged 77, passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. He was the devoted husband for 48 years to Mary Saylor, who preceded him in death. He leaves behind his sons , Bobby Saylor and Jon Saylor, granddaughter Lilith Saylor, and sister Sylvia Gregory. He also leaves behind countless nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved very much. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Mary Phelps Saylor. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Morris Saylor, Sam Saylor, James Saylor, Ruby Wright, Faye Caudill, and Juanita Helton.

Bobby Saylor was born into a loving family with eight siblings on February 8, 1947 in Bell County, Kentucky to Samuel and Mary Phelps Saylor. He grew up in the heart of Appalachia in an area known as "Black Snake Holler".

A graduate of Bell County High School, Bobby proudly served his country in Vietnam and ultimately was promoted to the rank of Army Sergeant until his honorable discharge. In 1970, he married the "love of his life", Mary Rapier. They, like so many others in Black Snake, dreamed of building a better life for themselves. In 1972, following in the footsteps of siblings , Bobby and Mary moved to Cincinnati where they started a family. It was there that Bobby attended barber college and later went to work at his brother Jim's barber shop in Forest Park. He later applied to be a driver for Roadway Express and, year after year, was told he was "too skinny" to be a truck driver. He persisted until they finally relented and hired him as a city driver. He worked there for 30 years until his retirement. Upon retiring, he along with Mary and his son Bobby founded a family gift store, "Just 4 You". In 2008, he and Mary began new careers as precious metals buyers. They would work in this field until their retirement in 2012.

Bobby enjoyed spending time with his wife, family, and extended family, his family reunion, playing cornhole, and chewing tobacco. In his younger years, he enjoyed competitive bowling and even got to compete in some televised tournaments in the 1970's. He loved watching Sherlock Holmes Mysteries, old Westerns, and Charlie Chan movies. He later fell in love with the Hawaiian Islands and was fortunate enough to visit there on six different occasions. He especially loved taking care of his animals, Bailey and his old cat Henry or any animal that showed up on his back porch. Bobby will be lovingly remembered and missed as a loving husband, son, brother, uncle, friend, and father. Bobby Saylor was a genuinely good man. Even though he may have sounded gruff sometimes, he was a peaceful, kind, thoughtful man that always cared about others and always put his family first.
