Carole Mae Korneffel

September 5, 1936 — September 2, 2025

Carole (Hurns) Korneffel, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on September 2, 2025, just three days shy of her 89th birthday. Born on September 5, 1936, in Birmingham, Michigan, Carole will always be remembered for her vibrant spirit, creativity, and devotion to her family.

Carole's life was deeply rooted in the beauty of Michigan, where she spent her childhood surrounded by lakes that held a special place in her heart. She married the boy next door, Douglas Korneffel Sr., and together they built a life rich in love and family. Their cherished cottage near Traverse City was a sanctuary of laughter, warmth, and unforgettable summer memories.

As the couple moved their family from Birmingham to Chicago, then Baltimore, and eventually settled in Cincinnati, Carole always carried with her the essence of Michigan's beauty. Known affectionately as "Mimi," she was the loving matriarch of the Korneffel family, a title she embraced wholeheartedly. Her creativity shone brightly as she crafted homemade Halloween costumes and doll clothes for her children and grandchildren, ensuring they were always the cutest kids on the block!

With an innate gift for nurturing, Carole delighted in preparing nurseries for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nursing even adult grandchildren back to health with her famous "meatballs and rice" recipe and always knowing exactly what size clothes they needed no matter the stage of life. She took immense joy in celebrating every family milestones, ensuring every birthday was marked with a heartfelt card emblazoned with a "SWAK" (sealed with a kiss) at the envelope's close.

Family was the centerpiece of Carole's life; her unwavering support and love for her husband Douglas, whom she fondly called her rock, and their three children-Douglas (Leslie), Gregory (Christine), and Kelly (John)-were a testament to her nurturing spirit. Carole's legacy of strength, warmth, and determination will forever be etched in the hearts of her grandchildren: Lindsay, Adam, Krista (Dett), Katie (Zachary), Kevin, Alex, Grant, as well as her great-grandchildren: Ellory, Parker, Riley, Collins, and Harry.

Carole will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will continue to live on in the memories and stories shared by her family.
