He was born on February 7, 1974. He lost his battle with lung cancer on October 7, 2024. He was the son of Christine and Rick Schmidt. Loving stepfather of Ollie, Sophia, and Addy. And the best dog DAD of Sabastion and Rocky. Brother of Amanda Schmidt, Kathryn Miller (Steve), and Elizabeth Mason (Seth). Uncle of Jessica Hatfield (Howard). A.J., Nate, Charlie, Bella, Chloe, Seth, Melanie, Sam, Autumn and Penny. He was preceded in death by his son C.J.
He was a US Army veteran. A lover of anything outdoors he never missed an opportunity to join a campfire or a fishing trip. An avid gardener he enjoyed working in the garden and comparing notes on what worked for the best tomatoes. He loved cars and always liked figuring out how to solve the problem and make it work again. He will be remembered for his kind and generous nature. He loved helping others be it delivering mulch because someone needed it or pitching in to help fix a house for someone in need. He poured his heart and soul into his work as a hard-working plumber.
Known for his infectious laughter, and love of good jokes he had a remarkable ability to bring smiles to others. Cary cherished his time with his family and friends often organizing playful water balloon fights ensuring everyone had fun. He was the first to sneak a willing niece or nephew a treat or to tell a joke to try to bring a smile to a grumpy face.
Family will receive friends at Evans Funeral Home, Milford, on Thursday, October 10th from 6-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at St. Andrew Church beginning at 10 AM. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Andrew Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children.
