Celeste Grace Riehle, a beloved spouse, matriarch, grandmother, and friend, passed on from this world to enter the heavenly kingdom of God on February 14, 2025. How fitting that Celeste, who shared so much love during her lifetime, was called home on St. Valentine's Day, a day we will now always cherish in her memory.
Celeste Grace (née Foppe) Riehle was born on November 1, 1933, in Cincinnati, OH, to the late Herman and Alice (née Loeffler) Foppe and peacefully passed away in Cincinnati, OH, at the age of 91. Celeste was a vibrant soul with a passion for life that shone brightly through her loving relationships and warm-hearted spirit.
She was the beloved wife of Bert Riehle (deceased Sept 2019), and a proud mother to her eight children. Celeste's legacy continues through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The love she cultivated for her family was evident in everything she did: from the family meals where an extra person was always welcome; to her joy in her garden, where flowers bloomed and vegetables grew abundantly (especially tomatoes); to the blankets she knitted for every one of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Celeste was a woman of deep faith and resilience. She spent countless hours in support of various ministries at St. Andrew Catholic Church. Her sense of humor and ability to always think positively brought laughter and light into the lives of those around her. Even in times of hardship, her cup was always more than half full. She enjoyed countless hours playing cards and other games with friends and family, and her home was always a welcoming place filled with laughter, warmth, and love.
As the last of her generation from the Riehle and Foppe families, Celeste proudly shared the stories and memories of her ancestors, ensuring that their legacy would live on through the following generations.
Celeste was the beloved wife of 66 years to her late husband Albert Joseph Riehle. Her children are: Jon (Angela Bohmann), Fred (Laura), Joanna Robinson (Don), Paul (Mary Ann), Teresa Whetzel (Dale), Mary Pajor (Tom), Mike (Toinette), and Barb Nye (Tom). Her grandchildren are: Anna Marie Bohmann (Spencer Dowdall), Emma Bohmann (Andrew Yost), Claire Bohmann (Nick Graveline), Aly (Robinson) Jimenez (José), Erin (Robinson) Hatterschide (Jack), Bridget Riehle, Ellen (Riehle) Thiel (Kyle), Travis Whetzel, Mike Whetzel (Elyse Keeney), Hannah Whetzel (Noah Millard), Pete Pajor (Layton), Bert Pajor (Camry Randolph), Alice Pajor, Jonathon Riehle (Lara), Jenna Riehle, Celeste Nye, and Natalie Nye. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 552 Main Street, Milford, OH beginning at 10 AM on Saturday, March 22nd. A celebration of life will follow at the Parish Center across from the church, where family and friends will gather to share lunch, their favorite memories, and to honor Celeste and the impact she had on their lives. A private burial will take place at a future date.
Celeste Riehle will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those she loved and in the fond memories shared by many.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Andrew Catholic Church, or Hospice of Cincinnati.
