Challas Johnson

February 11, 1935 — November 2, 2016

Challas Johnson beloved husband of 60 years to Jo Ann (nee Blanton) Johnson; loving father of Wanda (Tim) Hudson, Richard (Donna) Johnson and Sheila (Steve) Fahrnbach; cherished grandpa of Richard Johnson Jr., Nathan Hudson, Adam Hudson, Tristan Hudson, Dylan Fahrnbach and Drew Fahrnbach; "like a grandfather to" Katie Jones and Paul Field; dear brother of Zelma Eads, Elmer Johnson, Bernice Hammons, Marie Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim Johnson and Roberta (nee Williams) Johnson; his step mother, Juanita Johnson; and his siblings, Denver Johnson, Garret Johnson and Claude Johnson.

Challas was born in Barbourville, Kentucky on February 11th, 1935. Throughout his entire life Challas enjoyed all aspects of automobiles as well as watching his favorite sports teams which included the Cincinnati Reds, the Chicago Cubs, and the Cincinnati Bengals. As a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs, it was fitting that they won their first World Series title in over one-hundred years on the last day of his life. Whether it was helping to kill a spider in a new apartment, putting a new V-8 engine into a car, or helping to finish a basement in a new house, Challas was one of the most resourceful, generous, and kind hearted people around. He loved to help his friends and family in whatever way he could. As he grew older he may not have been able to physically help out as much, but he would still help out however he could, even if that meant sitting out in a chair on a chilly winter night helping his grandson change the brakes on his car. Challas, along with his beloved wife Jo Ann, raised three children and helped raise six grandchildren. Be it hunting, fishing, or gardening, Challas loved to be outdoors. The summers were never complete without a taste of Challas's tomatoes and cucumbers, fresh from his garden. Challas also had a love of woodworking. The homes of his friends and family are filled with the beautiful furniture that Challas built from scratch. Challas will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be dearly missed.
