Charles J "Charlie" Smith, beloved husband for 40 years to Kathy Titmuss-Smith, devoted father to William (Emily) Smith and Jackson (Makaela) Smith, loving grandfather to Nora, Evelynn, Luther and Bowman Smith. He was preceded in death by sister Linda Smith and brothers Jack Ely and Richard Smith.
Charlie was born in December 20th, 1956 in New Orleans, Louisiana. His parents moved the family to Milford, Ohio while he was still a child. He graduated from Milford High School in 1975. Charlie followed his father and enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a Hull Tech achieving the rank of Petty Officer Second Class. After leaving the Navy, Charlie attended two years at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. In 1984 he was dragged back to Milford, Ohio by his future wife Kathy in his 1978 Jeep CJ7 that he still had to this day. They were married on October 5th, 1985. Charlie dedicated 38 years to working as a Facilities and Property Manager to support his family and their passions. He was able to pass along his love of sports, southern cooking, music and working with his hands to his sons. From playing golf or as he would say "attempting to smack a little white ball in a straight line", cooking from scratch "edible" gumbo and etouffee, attempting to play guitar, to remodeling the house; Charlie thoroughly enjoyed his life. Some of his fondest memories were shared with friends while sitting around a fire, or floating at the lake; enjoying good tunes, a stogie, and a beverage or two. Charlie was notorious for testing a piece of furniture's durability and renowned for his ability to decorate with beer cans, placing them where only he could reach.
Charlie passed away Friday, March 21, 2025, at the age of 68. His gentle soul, sense of humor and loving friendship will be missed by many. His sons believe that he died on a Friday so that he was ready to start the party. His family plans to have a Celebration of Life at a later date, in the way that Charlie would love.
