Claudia Sue Cates, age 62, of South Carolina, formerly of Milford died unexpectedly August 18, 2016 in South Carolina. She was born January 20, 1954 in Cincinnati the daughter of William and Marilyn Freidheim Cates. While raising her children when young, furthering her education was her goal in life. As her children grew and helped tending to her elderly parents, Claudia enrolled at the University of Cincinnati and not only graduated with a degree in social work, but finished her Master's Degree in a year. She was a Professor and an Academic Advisor with the University of Cincinnati until her retirement in February of 2016. Her love was teaching and helping others return to school to complete their education. Through this love she was able to touch many lives and create programs throughout the Clermont County area so others would benefit. She was instrumental in helping coordinate Milford's first "After Prom" in 1989 and persuading teens to attend by giving a car away. Through her efforts, she was able to help obtain grants to help many communities in Clermont County, helping to build the Goshen Senior Citizen Center and the Recreational Center and the Latchkey Program in Felicity. In 1998 she received the "Educator of the Year Award" at the Chatfield College in Brown County. She is survived by her children and spouses, Christina and Aaron Greene, Elizabeth Lynn Larsen, David & Krista Dahlheimer Jr., grandchildren, Brendan, Jordan, Ethan and Grace Greene, Olivia "Pookie" & Sophie Tarter, sister, Shawn Yeary, brothers, Steven & Mark Cates, 3 nephews and 5 nieces. Services will be held 11:00AM Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the Evans Funeral Home in Milford with visitation from 10AM until the time of service. Rev. Jeff McClain will officiate. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Miamiville.
