Coy Peters, age 92 of Goshen Ohio went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on October 26, 2020 at
7:30 pm. He was surrounded by his family at home. Coy was born to John and Bertie Peters
(nee Helton) on September 29, 1928 in Lothair, KY. He was one of nine children and grew up in a coal camp. At a young age he began working as a caddy at his local golf course. As an older teenager he began working in the coal mines where he shoveled coal into coal carts while on his knees, and he also took care of the horses that pulled the carts. He met and married Alma Peters (nee Brewer) in 1948. They would later move to Ohio, where he would retire from his job as a crane operator at Central Steel and Wire in Elmwood Place in 1986, at which time he would pursue his passion and love for woodworking and gardening. He was a member of the Northern New Home Old Regular Baptist Church in Goshen, Ohio, for over forty-five years.
He is preceded in death by his father John Peters, mother Bertie Peters, sisters Kathleen, Maxine, Shirley and brothers Roy and Billy. He is survived by his wife of nearly 72 years, Alma (Brewer), sisters Lorene Deaton and Ginny Stepp, brother Bobby, sister -in-law Betty Cornett, brother-in-law Curtis Brewer, daughters Joyce (Bret) Wigfield, Phyllis (Michael) Gibson, and Tammy Peters, sons Donnie (Cathy) Peters and Will Peters, 16 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, 6 great, great grandchildren, and a great host of nieces, nephews, church family and friends.
Visitation is on Friday, October 30, 2020 from 6pm - 8pm and funeral service is on Saturday at 10am all at Northern New Home Old Regular Baptist Church, 1848 Stumpy Lane, Goshen, Ohio, with interment to follow at Goshen Cemetery. All family and friends are welcome to attend. Services are being held by Evans Funeral Home with the funeral officiated by Elder Ray Williamson. Memorials can be made to Dementia Society of America or Wounded Warriors. Evans Funeral Home Goshen serving the family.
