David C. Drake

September 25, 1946 — February 12, 2025

David Charles Drake, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and known as “Forklift Dave” passed away peacefully on February 12, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on September 25, 1946, in Hamilton County.

As the owner of Eastgate Sales & Service, David found fulfillment in his work, but it was his passion for life that truly defined him. He was known in the community not just for his dedication to his business, but for his warm spirit, engaging conversations, and willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. David believed that kindness was the strongest currency and lived each day embodying that principle.

An avid tinkerer, David spent countless hours in his barn, surrounded by projects that allowed him to express his creativity and love for the mechanical. He cherished weekends spent at the Pumpkin Run car show, where his appreciation for vintage automobiles shone through as he connected with fellow enthusiasts. His love of old movies and television provided him with a sense of nostalgia and joy, while his deep passion for NBA basketball kept him glued to the screen during each season.

David's love extended beyond his hobbies; he was a devoted animal lover, always advocating for the welfare of furry friends. Whether attending air shows to marvel at vintage planes or sharing stories with family and friends, he embraced every moment.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Barbara Drake; his son, Clinton (Sherry) Drake; and his daughter, Melanie (Craig) Faller; stepchildren Jennifer (Mark) Staab and Kimberly Buxton. He will also be lovingly remembered by his granddaughter, Dr. Heather (Nick) Chouteau, as well as his great-grandchildren, Jackson, Eleanor, and Madeleine Chouteau, and best friend Wayne Gillman.

A celebration of David's life will take place on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at 11:00AM in the Evans Funeral Home, Goshen. Family and friends will gather at 10:00AM to pay their respects and share memories that will keep his spirit alive. After the service honoring his legacy, military honors will be held to honor Dave’s service to his country in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War.

Though David has departed from this world, his kindness, laughter, and unwavering love will forever echo in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him. As we reflect on his remarkable life, we are reminded of the impact he has had on our lives and the importance of carrying forward his legacy of compassion and friendship. Rest in peace, dear Dave; you will be deeply missed.

David was preceded in death by: his parents Charles and Edna Drake, his first wife Anne Drake, and siblings Linda C. Drake and Donna Konrad
