Ever since Denny made his transition to heaven, he has given assurances that he is enjoying Paradise with his parents Henry and Mary (Walsh) Koop, his brother Richard and his aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Denny had his last dance with Lewy Body Dementia wearing his Superman shirt and an inner smile. Surrounded by his loving family at home in Blue Ash, Ohio Denny was comforted by song and prayer in the arms of Dianne, his forever love of 54 years. As he took his final breaths, his granddaughter Lydia sang "I Love You a Bushel and a Peck" on speaker phone from the University of Oklahoma.

His wife Dianne (Busse) and children, Martin, Matthew (Melissa) and Melanie Brinkmann (Tom), along with Beth Koop, Holly Coch, grandchildren Lydia, Thomas, Meredith, James, Ethan, Ryan, Aiden and Evelyn, his sisters Carol Yarbrough (Steve), Mary Jane DelVerne (Mike), sister-in-law Kathy Koop, and brother-in-law Jim Busse (Nancy) give great gratitude for the support, love and prayers received through the years.

Denny cherished his academic years at St. Francis de Sales High School and the University of Toledo, his financial career with Fayette Tubular Products, Mohawk Tire and Rubber Company, Seagate Vending, St. Martin de Porres Church, and the University of Toledo. His fond memories include teaching Sunday School, his involvement with Marriage Encounter, Family Encounter, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Prayer Group, Awareness Prison Ministry, St. Patrick's of Heatherdowns Youth Group, and his service at St. Pat's as Lay Director of Christ Renews His Parish. He looked forward to Sunday evenings with Toledo's Flowing Water's Meditation Group. While in Blue Ash, he was thankful for the new insights and relationships he formed while attending Bible Study at Town Square Senior Living.

HIs family and friends have inspiring stories about his gentle spirit, his faith, his quick wit, sense of humor, and his love for singing and dancing. He delighted in participating in Family Olympic Games, traveling with family and ringing in the New Year with special friends. The Koop home was well known as a safe haven for, friends, and friends of friends. Denny made sure the door was always open.

Denny enjoyed coaching youth soccer and experimenting with his artistic side by blowing glass and throwing pots. For the past three years while in Cincinnati, inspired by his participation in " Memories in the Making" through the Alzheimer's Association, he created, then shared abstract paintings.

Winter was a season of great fun - time for cross-country skiing. Spring, summer, and fall would find Denny walking nature trails or relaxing at the lake with Dianne, family and friends. As Papa Koop, he savored time with his grandchildren and enjoyed attending their various activities. Whenever the rigors of having LBD weakened him mentally and emotionally, his grands, with their energy, love and support helped him rally.

Please join the family at 9:30 a.m. for visitation followed by a 10:00 am celebratory Funeral mass, Saturday, May 12th at St. Patrick's of Heatherdowns Catholic Church. Please bring your favorite "Denny Koop" memories for the reception that will follow at St. Pat's Holy Family Center. (Martin Koop along with friends will play traditional Irish music at Shawn's Irish Tavern after the luncheon.) The Rite of Committal (burial) will take place at 1:00 pm on Sunday, May 13 at Allen Township Cemetery in Williston, Ohio. Details for a June 9th Cincinnati picnic to honor Denny coming soon.

To further celebrate Denny, please consider the following: a donation to St. Patrick's of Heatherdowns School, a corsage for a special person, or an outrageous tip to your next restaurant server. Keep his memory alive by paying it forward.
