Dennis "Denny" M. Nead

March 4, 1937 — September 11, 2024

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Dennis Nead, 87, who died on September 11, 2024, in Milford, OH at his home with wife of 22 years, Helen. Denny lived his life for others and touched so many with his kindness, generosity, love, compassion, and sense of humor. He was born on March 4, 1937 in Cincinnati, OH, to Gordon and Ethel Nead. Denny graduated from St. Xavier High School in 1955 and received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Notre Dame in 1959. As a First Lieutenant in the Army, he served his country for two years until 1961. He spent his career working in life insurance, with over 25 years at Security Connecticut, and later joined John O'Toole and Associates, Horan, and Diversified Brokerage Specialists. In 1964, Denny married Mary Jo Nead (née Utt) and had 3 children, Jo Ann, Susan, and Michael. The family resided in Cincinnati where Denny modeled faith, discipline, love, and humility every day. The list of warm memories is long with each having in common smiles, laughter, love, and the purist kind of joy. Denny's passion for golf began as a caddie at Losantiville County Club, then as a City Champion, on to the Notre Dame and Army golf teams, and most recently as the coach for the Mariemont High School team. He enjoyed playing, teaching and helping others improve their game, he was truly a professional lover of the sport. In Denny's retirement, he enjoyed time with his lifelong friends who met weekly for lunch, swimming laps, regular phone calls and visits, cutting the Fowler lawn, and volunteering at Good Shepherd Church as a lay minister performing Communion Mass. He and Helen also enjoyed many movies, dinners, meetings, and Notre Dame football games. Being on the Notre Dame campus always brought emotion usually highlighted by a rousing pre-game pep talk and being in his seat 45 minutes before kickoff. Time with Denny was precious as he was always thinking about how to help others evidenced by the intentionality in his actions, thoughtful notes, donations or a piece of wisdom shared. Those who knew him have those gifts to carry forward and can share his lessons, impact and love with others.
