Dorothy Jean Mcmahon Ross

Dorothy J. “Dottie” McMahon Ross was born on January 24, 1933 to Oliver and Della (Wagers) Saylor in Molus, Kentucky. She was the eldest of four with three younger brothers, Pearl (deceased), Vernon, and Berl. She also had three half sisters, Helen, Lela, and Hester that all predeceased her.

Dottie was the beloved wife of the late James R. McMahon and they were happily married for 52 years until his passing in 2010. She found love again and married in 2015 to the late Paul R. Ross until his passing in 2020. She was the loving mother of Mary (Joseph) Barthel, Barbara (Rusty) Morrisroe, Diane (Dan) Gumbert, and James R. McMahon, Jr. (Michelle). Dear grandmother of Ryan, Kara, Dana, Erin, Kyle, George, Alex, Tyler, Erica, Jacob, and Zachary. Dear great grandmother of Landon, Robin, Madeline, Vincent, and baby Federico.

Dottie was also a second mother to five other children that she provided in-home childcare for, to supplement the family income. She was affectionately known as “Mama Dottie.”

Dottie was a friend to all who knew her and always had a warm hug or a shoulder to offer. She loved people, flowers, gardening and helping others but most of all she loved her family. She volunteered for “Meals on Wheels” for several years and became a favorite of her customers; oftentimes spending a few extra minutes chatting with each of them as she delivered their meals.

Dottie developed Alzheimer’s Disease in 2016 and spent the last year of her life in the care of the Arden Courts of Anderson.

Dottie passed away peacefully on Sunday May 21 surrounded by her loving family.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 30, 2023 from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 AM at Evans Funeral Home, 741 Center St., Milford, OH, 45150. Dottie will be buried at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio where a 12:00 PM graveside service will take place.
