Dr. Everett Linn Jones, 86, of Cincinnati, OH died February 5, 2017 after a short illness. Dr. Jones dedicated his life to quietly caring for others. He was a kind gentleman, in every sense. He was loved by his family, friends, and patients. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth; his son Douglas, daughter-law Rebecca and grandchildren Isabelle and Theodore; his son Ronald of Houston; his son Kenneth of Chicago, daughter-in-law Jane Schaefer, and grandchildren Linnea and Iris.
A memorial service will be held at Indian Hill Church on April 1, 2017, with musical prelude beginning 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations in his name be directed to the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra or the Freestore Foodbank.
Dr. Jones was born in 1930 to Mary Van Wormer Linn and Everett Blaine Jones of Lima OH. He was the youngest brother of Jeanette Freeman, Clara Kaumeyer, and Alice Alexander, all of whom have preceded him in death. While attending Lima Central High School, he worked at a local architecture firm. He graduated high school in 1948 and entered Ohio State University. He considered architecture and medicine as careers. Medicine won. After receiving his B.A. in 3 years in 1951, he attended Ohio State University Medical School, graduating in 1955.After medical school, he interned at Orange County Hospital in Southern California. Afterwards, he joined the Public Health Service and held several positions in increasingly colder climates. He started at the National Leprosarium in Carville, LA. Next, he was assigned to the Coast Guard as a doctor on the icebreaker Westwind. This vessel travelled to both Antarctica and the Artic, breaking ice to deliver supplies to scientific outposts, After leaving the Public Health Service, he settled in New York City to pursue research in gastroenterology. However, his interest and career path soon switched to dermatology. While in New York City, Dr. Jones was introduced to Elizabeth Ann Knowles. They were married in May, 1960 in Hackensack, NJ. After finishing a residency in research dermatology at Yale Medical School, Dr. Jones and Elizabeth moved to Chicago where he completed three years of post-graduate research in dermatology at the University of Chicago Medical School .In 1963, they moved to Indianapolis where Dr. Jones joined Eli Lilly Research Laboratories. For 14 years, he was a clinical investigator and senior physician. He focused on developing new treatments for psoriasis. Dr. Jones holds a patent related to the use of mycophenolic acid in the treatment of arthritis.In 1977, Dr. Jones moved to Cincinnati as the Medical Director for Hill Top Research. Later, he went into private practice, with offices in Cincinnati, Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg, IN, and Milford, OH. He continued to practice Dermatology until retirement in 2014. Dr. Jones was a member of the Cincinnati Dermatological Society, the Indian Hill Church, the Cincinnati Christian Chorale, and a supporter of Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and Opera. He also supported efforts to feed, clothe, and shelter homeless individuals. Dr. Jones's love for music was profound. In addition to singing tenor in church choirs, he sang with other groups including the Kingsmen and the Northern Kentucky Community Chorus.
