Edmund Clarence Montgomery

Symmes Twp, Ohio - Edmund C. Montgomery died May 16, 2021, peacefully at home. He was born January 25, 1929 in Mannington, WV, the son of William Lawrence Montgomery and Gladys (Davis) Montgomery.

Ed grew up in Columbus, Ohio, graduating from West High School in 1946. He joined the U.S. Marine Corp immediately after high school and was discharged in 1949 only to be recalled from 1951-1953.

In 1950, Ed married high school sweetheart Barbara Jane Tallman. After earning his BS, from The Ohio State University, the couple moved to Cincinnati where Ed began his career in education. He taught Science and coached the golf team at Woodward High School, ultimately moving into administration as assistant principal at Walnut Hills High School then principal at Cutter Jr. High.

He was a lifelong student himself, completing his Masters in Education and pursuing Ph.D
work in Botany at OSU. Ed finished his career as principal of Lockland High School and finally Assistant Superintendent of the Lockland School District.

Ed's lifelong passion, besides family, was golf. He was regarded as one of Cincinnati's top amateurs for many years. He won numerous championships including the Sharon Woods Club Championship and the Albers Hamilton County Public Links Championship. In retirement he was able to fill his time with his passion serving as bartender at The Camargo Club for 25 years.

In addition to his wife Barbara, he was predeceased by his son Patrick Lawrence Montgomery, (wife Suzanne) of Cincinnati. Ed is survived by his son Jay Montgomery and his wife Karen of New York, Susan Carroll and her husband Bill of Westchester OH, Dirk Montgomery and his wife Caprice of Tampa FL, 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 6, 2021 at The Sharon Woods Golf Course Clubhouse at 12:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting donations to The Ohio State University Arboretums, Chadwick Arboretum 2001 Fyffe Court, Columbus, Ohio 43210 or Secrest Arboretum 1680 Madison Avenue, Wooster, Ohio 44691.
