It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward Calvin Cunningham on August 11, 2024, at the age of 83. Edward was born on June 2, 1941, in Ironton, OH, to the late Reverend George H. and Louise (nee Warren) Cunningham.
Ed is survived by his devoted wife Muriel Quammen Cunningham; Loving father of William Cunningham and stepfather of Kristi Lewis; Dear brother of Leona (Ronald I.) Holley and the late Kelley Warren Cunningham; Cherished Uncle of Kristie Lynn Holley, Tonya Barrett, Jason Cunningham, and Michael Eugene Holley. Ed also leaves behind his former wife, Phyllis Cunningham, and several cousins to cherish his memory.
Edward graduated from Marshall University in 1965, where he earned his bachelor's degree. His passion for teaching led him to a career in educating students in math and history, instilling knowledge and wisdom in the minds of many young individuals. Later, he transitioned into the role of a Labor Relations Consultant for the Ohio Education Association, where he dedicated his time and expertise before retiring. Additionally, Ed also pursued a career as a real estate agent, showcasing his versatility and dedication to his work.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ed was a pillar of strength within his church and community, touching the lives of many with his compassion and faith. As a lay minister, he shared his faith with compassion and empathy, offering solace to those in need. His family was at the center of his world, and his love for them knew no bounds. Edward's love extended to animals, especially his dogs and cats, and he always found joy in their presence.
An advocate for always presenting oneself well, Ed was admired for his impeccable sense of style, always looking sharp and put-together in any setting. He had a love for capturing memories through photography, collecting model cars and playing the guitar. Ed had a zest for life that was infectious to all who knew him.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Emmanuel United Methodist Church - 4312 Amelia-Olive Branch Rd, Batavia, OH 45103. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Woodside Cemetery - Middletown, OH, at 3PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
