Edward Joseph Pilis

December 11, 1923 — January 7, 2018

On Sunday, January 7, 2018, Edward Pilis, husband, and father passed away at the age of 94 in Milford, OH. Ed will be forever remembered by his wife of 65 years Wanda (Terry), and their children, Jeanne Pilis, Tom Pilis and his wife Judy, Joe Pilis and his wife Desiree; and their grandchildren Steven, Matt, Christopher, Zoe and Madison.
Ed was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy for which he served from 1942 until 1948 as a Machinist Mate on the U.S.S. Lamson. Recipient of the following medals: World War II Victory, American Theater, European African Middle East, Asiatic Pacific, Philippine Liberation and Good Conduct. He participated in Operation Crossroads ordered by the Joint Chiefs of Staff to test the effect of the atomic bomb on naval vessels which was conducted at Bikini Atoll, Marshall Islands

Ed worked at the Brooklyn Navy Yard before his 29-year employment with Procter & Gamble as a maintenance mechanic. He retired from Port Ivory in 1989.

Ed's hobbies were woodworking, fishing, gardening, collecting stamps, travelling and bowling. He was very active in a number of Staten Island Clubs; namely the Port Ivory Retirees Club, Willowbrook AARP, VFW Blazing Star Post, American Legion Gold Star Post, St. Anthony's Polish Roman Catholic Union of America, Golden Oldies Bowling League, and Holy Name Society. Ed was a lector for St. Anthony's RC Church in Travis for 28 years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 11th at St. Veronica's Catholic Church, 4473 Mount Carmel Tobasco Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45244. The viewing will be from 9 to 10 a.m., followed by mass. Donations in his honor may be made to St. Anthony of Padua RC Church, 24 Shelley Ave, Staten Island, NY 10314.
