It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Edward G. Smith Jr, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left us on November 25, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on February 25, 1943, Edward, affectionately known as Ed, lived a life filled with passion, compassion, and adventure.
Edward is survived by his cherished children: Edward Smith III (Suwanna), Tamara Eveslage (Sean), Aaron Smith (Ann), and Elliot Smith (Elizabeth), and their mother: Susan Stewart, as well as his beloved grandchildren: Komkit Seshompo (Maria), Bryce Smith, Alexander Eveslage, Brendan Eveslage (Rachael), Josephine Smith, and Adelaine Smith. He will also be fondly remembered by his sisters, Dorothy LeCount (Paul) and JoAnn Sharpshair (Bill), and sister-in-law Rose (Wendell). Edward was preceded in death by his parents: Edward G. Smith Sr. and Helen P. Knotts, and his brother, Wendell Smith.
A proud veteran, Edward served his country in the United States Navy and the Air National Guard, where he was a dedicated boom operator, involved in the Gulf War, Desert Storm, Desert Shield, and Desert Calm. His service to his country was marked by honor and commitment. Edward carried his military pride throughout his life, instilling the values of dedication and camaraderie in his family.
Edward was a man of many interests, known affectionately as the "patch guy" and the "license plate guy" for his treasured collections. His adventurous spirit took him to almost all 50 states, countless countries, and across five continents. He enjoyed taking his grandchildren on memorable "presidential tours" where he shared the rich history of many past presidents and places. As a history buff, Ed emphasized the joy of learning and exploration.
Ed enjoyed spending time with his family, often leading board game nights where he proudly held the title of Scrabble champion for many years.
His warmth, kindness, and humor will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Edward's memory will live on through the fond stories shared by family and friends, celebrating a life well lived, filled with love, joy, and connection.
Family and friends are invited to join us in honoring Edward's remarkable life. A visitation will be held on December 9th, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Evans Funeral Home in Milford (741 Center Street), followed by a funeral service at 6:00 PM. Edward will be laid to rest at the Dayton National Cemetery.
We invite all who were touched by Edward's life to gather and share the love and memories that he brought into this world. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in his memory to Samaritan's Purse.
