Edwin "Ed" Hutchinson Humphrey passed away peacefully on August 15, 2026, at the age of 82. Born to Edwin O. and Mary H. Humphrey in Miamiville, Ohio. He spent most of his life there with his loving wife of 59 years Janice (Black) Humphrey. Miamiville is also where he raised his three kids, Douglas Humphrey, Gail (Chad) Wehrman, and Scott (Amy) Humphrey, and doted on his seven grandchildren, Alexandra Crouch, Daniel (Alexis) Humphrey, Seth Wehrman, Nathanial Wehrman, Skylar (Mason) Frank, Sophia Humphrey, and Ellie Humphrey. Ed was also loved by many extended family, friends, and colleagues.

It was alongside his family that he developed his favorite hobbies: skiing at Perfect North Slopes in the winter and sailing at Rocky Fork Lake in the summer. He also traveled around Cincinnati serving as a soccer coach to his kids and watching his grandchildren play for various teams and schools. In addition, Ed was a member of Milford Lodge No. 54 F &AM for over 60 years as well as a member of both the Scottish and York Rites.

A lifelong learner, Ed began his education in a one-room schoolhouse in Miamiville before becoming a Milford Eagle and eventually a University of Cincinnati Bearcat (earning both his B.A and M.B.A.). It was at UC where he'd learn the ins and outs of business-first by serving as the business manager for the UC Men's Glee Club, then as a teaching assistant for a professor who sent him "into the field" to local grocery stores to do inventory. After college, Ed would land a job at Procter & Gamble where he would work for 28 years. His love of learning also made him an avid teacher, whether it was teaching new EMTs how to apply a tourniquet, P&G executives how to use email, ski patrollers how to do mountain rescue, or his grandkids various sailing techniques.

Ed's true passion, though, was serving others. He served as an elected official for 20 years-first as a Miami Township Trustee and then as a Clermont County Commissioner. Before that, he was one of the founders of Miamiville Fire and EMS Services and rose through the ranks to become both Fire and EMS chief. He also served on various boards including the National Ski Patrol, the American Heart Association, METRO, Box 13, and the Milford First United Methodist Church. Not satisfied with just being a member, Ed also lead several other organizations, including serving as President of OKI, Coalition of Large Ohio Townships, and of the County Commissioners Association of Ohio.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Aug 18, 2026 from 6-8PM at Milford First United Methodist Church 541 Main St, Milford, Ohio 45150 and one hour prior to the service at 10:00AM. Funeral services to honor Ed will begin at 11:00AM on Wednesday, Aug 19, 2026 at the Church. Masonic services will take place on Tuesday at 7:45PM at the Church.  Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Miamiville.  

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Milford First United Methodist Church  or Dolly Parton's Imagination Library of Clermont County  in Ed's memory.

The family will be celebrating Ed's life and impact on his community at Miamiville Trailyard for fellowship and light refreshments following a graveside service on Wednesday, August 19. All who loved Ed are welcome to join.
