With heavy hearts, the family of Elva Greer announces her passing from this life and into the arms of her Savior on July 23, 2026. She passed away peacefully at the age of 100.

Born in Whetstone, Kentucky on March 5, 1926 to George and Ada (Chaney) Hargis, Elva grew up with her seven siblings on a tobacco farm in a three room home deep in the hills of Kentucky during the Great Depression. She often spoke fondly of her childhood in the country living without modern day conveniences like running water and electricity and commented on how grateful she was that her family was able to grow much of their own food on the farm during those difficult times. Elva attended school in a one room schoolhouse and completed her education through the eighth grade.

Elva married Lacy Leo Greer on October 4, 1947 in Cincinnati, Ohio and became a dedicated homemaker and mother to their three children. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening both flowers and vegetables and would can food from her garden to feed her family. Quilting also became a passion of hers as she made countless hand stitched pieces giving the majority of them away as gifts to family members and close friends. Walking was another pass time Elva enjoyed as she walked three miles in her neighborhood most days. Her other interests in later years included watching golf and the Cincinnati Reds.

Despite being raised in church at a young age, Elva began her personal relationship with Jesus Christ asking Him to save her while she was in her mid thirties. That decision would forever shape her life and her family for generations. She served faithfully in four different churches and taught Sunday School to elementary students for many years. She was a faithful prayer warrior for her family and church while also mentoring many women in the faith by providing a listening ear, wise counsel and encouragement. Her smile would light up any room she walked into and she was known by many for her incredible hugs. Elva committed much of the Scriptures to memory and continued to study God's Word throughout her entire life. She truly loved her Savior with her whole heart.

Elva is preceded in death by her parents George and Ada (Chaney) Hargis, her siblings Zelma, Zelta, Wilma, Ewell and Beulah; her beloved husband Lacy Leo Greer and her daughter Angela Gail Johnson. She is survived by her brothers Kenneth (Pat) Hargis and Denton Hargis and her beloved sons Darius Greer and Joel (Sonya) Greer. Her grandchildren: Tad Greer, David (Michelle) Greer, Suzanne (Phil) Ditchen, Justin (Miranda) Greer, Joshua Greer, Lyndsey (Preston) Layne, Jacob Greer. Her great grandchildren: Brooklyn (Brian) Cantrell, Rayven Greer, Kaylee Greer, Emma Ditchen, Elena Ditchen, Julianne Ditchen, Jonah Ditchen, Bellamy Greer, Adelynn Greer, Ophelia Greer, David Greer, Evelynn Layne, Eleanor Layne, Archer Layne.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2026 from 6pm to 8pm at Branch Hill Baptist Church.

A funeral service celebrating Elva's life will be held the following morning on Friday, July 31, 2026 at 10am at Branch Hill Baptist Church.
