Ethel Laurance Peter

Ethel Laurance Peter, age 105, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2019 at the Bethesda North Hospital in Montgomery. She was born November 17, 1913 in Greensboro, North Carolina, the daughter of Dixie Lee and Maggie Louise (nee Carpenter) James. Ethel was a homemaker but loved her gardening. She raised flowers and vegetables and had a stand on Amelia Olive Branch Rd. for nearly 10 years. Ethel was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Milford and a great Cincinnati Reds fan. Her husband, August J. Peter Jr. preceded her in death in 1965, along with her daughter; Sonja Powlish, siblings; Frank, Jessie, Myrtle and Stella James. She is survived by her children and spouses; Saundra (the late Carl) Casnellie, Dorothy (Anthony) DeFelice, her a "adopted daughter"; Cheryl Murrer, grandchildren; Ronald Lee, Stephen Jeffrey, Michael James, John William, Joanie Lee, Kathy, Karen, Hank, Cindy, Sharon, James and Jonathan, 20 great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. Services will be 11:00 AM Friday, October 4, 2019 with visitation from 9:30 AM until the time of service at the First Baptist Church of Milford, 1367 Woodville Pike, Milford 45150. Dr. Charles Keen and Pastor William Duttry will officiate. Burial will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
