Eugene Lloyd Herrmann, age 90, peacefully passed away at home on June 1, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on November 18, 1935, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Gene lived a life marked by curiosity, adventure, deep faith, and a profound appreciation for the natural world. While he enjoyed a successful career as an engineer in the manufacturing industry, including many years with Cincinnati Sub-Zero, those who knew him best understood that his true passions were found beyond the walls of an office.
Gene was an outdoorsman at heart. From an early age, he developed a love for nature while spending time at his parent's cabin in Canada. Throughout his life, he sought adventure wherever he could find it. He enjoyed kayaking remote waterways, exploring the wilderness of Ontario, hiking portions of the Appalachian Trail, and spending countless hours observing weather patterns and the night sky. He felt closest to God when surrounded by His creation and found peace, wonder, and inspiration in the beauty of the outdoors.
His love of nature became part of his legacy, as he passed that appreciation and sense of adventure on to his children and grandchildren. Many family memories were shaped by camping trips, outdoor exploration, and the simple joy of experiencing the world together.
Gene was also a lifelong learner with an inquisitive mind. He enjoyed electronics, ham radio, photography, astronomy, and emerging technologies. He was fascinated by how things worked and never lost his desire to understand the world around him.
Above all, Gene was devoted to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Carlyn "Kay" Herrmann; his sons, Scott (Gina) Herrmann and Daniel (April) Herrmann; his daughter, Jessica Reid; his grandchildren, Valerie (Louie) Galbraith, Rachael (Ian) Martinez, Matthew (Marissa) Moore, Cooper Herrmann, and Emersyn Herrmann; and his great-grandchildren, Carlyn and Isabella Martinez, Carter and Abigail Moore.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Jayne Herrmann, and his beloved daughter, Tamah L. Herrmann.
Gene's family takes comfort in knowing that the faith which guided him throughout his life has now become sight. After a lifetime of marveling at God's creation, he now rests in the presence of his Creator and has been reunited with loved ones who went before him.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Gene will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his curious mind, his steadfast faith, and the love he shared with his family. His legacy lives on in the generations he inspired to explore, wonder, and appreciate the beauty of God's world.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
