With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Frederick Joseph Mintkenbaugh on August 28, 2024, at the age of 80. Frederick, a devoted father, a proud Army veteran and the beloved owner of "Fred's Donuts," has left a void in the hearts of all who knew him.


Fred was the loving father of Tim (Melinda) Mintkenbaugh, Shelia (Grady) Reed, and Suzan Mintkenbaugh; Cherished grandfather of Desiree Whisman, Monick Bice, Jessica Green, Joshua Mintkenbaugh, Jacob Mintkenbaugh, and Jonah Mintkenbaugh; great-grandfather of Aiden, Simon, Allison, Lucy, Claire, Hannah, Nora, Ryan, Mallory, Judah, Isaiah, Kaydence, Little John, Ellie, and two others on the way; Brother of Carol (the late Richard) Lightfield and Gene (the late Kathy) Mintkenbaugh.


Along with his parents, Fred is preceded in death by two siblings: Fran (survived by Rosemary) Mintkenbaugh and Jack (survived by Martha) Mintkenbaugh.


Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on October 7, 1943, to the late Robert and Wiltrude (nee Palmer) Mintkenbaugh. Frederick dedicated his life to serving others, be it through his tireless work in his donut shop, serving his country bravely as a Specialist in the Army, or simply spreading joy with his infectious love for telling jokes, especially dad jokes.


During his time in the Army, Frederick was stationed at the Berlin Wall in Germany for two years as a mechanic and heavy machinery operator, where he displayed unwavering dedication and served his country with honor. Following his military service, Frederick pursued his passion for baking and ran his own successful donut shop for thirty-two years, "Fred's Donuts," where his craftsmanship in the kitchen brought smiles to countless customers


A compassionate soul, Frederick was known for his generous nature and willingness to help anyone in need. He cherished his family and his cats, finding joy in their company every day. In addition to his family and work, Frederick was a dedicated member of Grace Baptist Church in Batavia, finding solace and strength in his faith.


In his free time, Frederick was a collector of many things, each item holding a special memory or story. His warm smile and kind spirit touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.


A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at 12:00 PM at Graceland Memorial Gardens - Mausoleum. A funeral service will immediately follow beginning at 1:00 PM. Memorial donations can be made in Fred's honor to the Alzheimer's Association. (Link below)
