Gary Mallory Bassett

Born : March 14, 1964 Died April 9 2025

Gary Mallory Bassett died on Wednesday April 9. He was the son of Kenneth B. Bassett and Polly M. Bassett and he is survived by his mother, his three sons Mac of Washington D.C., Sam of Terrace Park, Ohio and Tucker of Cincinnati, Ohio, his brother Glenn of Amsterdam, Netherlands and his dog, Lola. He is preceded in death by his father Kenneth Bassett

Gary was a graduate of The Seven Hills School and the University of Cincinnati Design Art and Architecture Planning program with a major in fashion design. Soon afterwards, Gary started Mallory Homes, a home construction company, which constructed several homes in the Cincinnati area. As a devoted lover of the culinary arts, Gary had a unique passion for French cuisine, finding joy in both mastering classic techniques and sharing memorable meals with family and friends. He enrolled and graduated from Cincinnati State’s Midwest Culinary Institute and promptly began a new chapter as chef at Jean Robert’s Table, fostering a relationship with esteemed chef, Jean Robert de Caval. In his later years, Gary developed and honed his skills in artisanal craftsmanship, specializing in wood and leather and working alongside his dear and loving friend Kristin Kochenower.

Gary and his former wife, Nancy McCormick, met as students at The Seven Hills School. Together, they raised their three children — Mac, Sam, and Tucker — primarily in Terrace Park, and all three proudly followed in their parents as graduates of The Seven Hills School. Gary had a deep love for nature and an adventurous spirit. As a student, he was a standout athlete, excelling in both basketball and soccer. Beyond his many interests and creative talents Gary was known for his kind heart and easygoing charm. His strength, kindness, and the memories he created with those who loved him will always be remembered. In his last few years Gary suffered from a number of serious health issues. He handled these with strength and courage.
