Obituary

Gene Bishop Jr., born on April 7, 1944, in Braddock, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully from natural causes on November 4, 2026, at the age of 82. A resident of Miami Township, Ohio, Gene's life was characterized by his unwavering commitment to his family, community, and service.

Gene shared a remarkable 62 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Patricia. Together, they raised two sons, David (Ashley) and Jeff (Holly), who became a testament to Gene's devotion as a father. He took great pride in his role as a grandfather to Cody (Sara), Samantha, Kyle, Jack (Angie), and Eli, and in the joy brought by his great-grandchildren, Levi, Ashton, Wesley, and Amadeus, and his sister, Bunny Bishop. Gene was preceded in death by: his parents Allan and Mildred Bishop, Sr., and brothers James and William Bishop.

Gene's professional journey led him to become a Worldwide Program Manager at Digital Equipment retiring following 25 years of service, where he made lasting contributions in the field. However, it was his profound dedication to his community that left an indelible mark. Gene was recognized as the 2013 Ohio Crime Prevention Association Practitioner of the Year for his tireless volunteer efforts with the Miami Township, Milford, Goshen Township, and Loveland police departments. He proudly served with Crime Stoppers and Pro Seniors Ohio and was actively involved in initiatives such as "Shop with a Cop" and patrolling Miami Township as part of the Citizens on Patrol. His impact on youth was profound, as he mentored at-risk students, guiding them towards high school graduation.

In addition to his work with law enforcement, Gene was a passionate sportsman. As the president of the Southern Ohio Umpires Association, he dedicated over 38 years to umpiring high school baseball games, earning the respect and admiration of countless players and coaches alike. His contributions to the community extended to serving as a martial arts instructor, where he helped instill discipline and confidence in many young martial artists. Was a long time member at O'Bannon Creek Golf Club, Gene enjoyed being a dew sweeper and playing early morning rounds of golf.

Gene's legacy of service and leadership was further recognized through awards such as the United Way's Volunteer of the Year and Clermont 20/20's Salute to Leaders. His life was guided by principles of kindness, integrity, and a deep-seated love for his community and family.

A memorial gathering will take place on Saturday, November 7, 2026 from 4-6PM in the Evans Funeral Home, Milford, where family, friends, and community members will gather to celebrate the extraordinary impact he made on so many. His legacy will continue to inspire us all as we reflect on the countless lives he touched through his unwavering service and love.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to organizations close to Gene's heart, such as Crimestoppers of Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky or American Diabetes Association as a way to continue his commitment to service and community.
