EULOGY OF GEORGIA MARIE FISHER

Georgia Marie Kincheloe was born on July 25, 1922, the daughter of Leola Alberta and Otis Lee Kincheloe. Her sister, Eva was 2 years older and two brothers, Albert and Sam, would follow later.

Georgia graduated from Mt. Orab High School in 1940 and from Bethesda School of Nursing in 1943. She would marry Roger W. Fisher on January 30, 1945 at the Pilgrim Holiness Church outside Mt. Orab where they met when they were both 8 years old. His father, Rev. Walter Fisher, was the pastor and married them while Roger was on leave from the US Army, stationed in Greenland. Eva was Georgia’s Matron of Honor. They would remain best friends and confidants forever.

While Roger was back in Greenland, Georgia continued her work as a nurse at the hospital. When he was honorably discharged, the couple moved to Owosso, MI, where Roger attended classes. They moved back home before the birth of their first child, Edwin Lee, who was born in April 1947. Another son, James Eugene, was born in November 1948 and Donna Mae in December 1954. The family would be active at the nearby Mulberry Wesleyan Church.

The family took winter vacations to the Everglades in Florida. They stayed at the same little motel with small houses and a boat dock on Chokoloskee Island. The entire family loved to fish. Plus, the children enjoyed missing school for a few days.

Ed married Rita McKenzie in 1970, and they have a son Brian. Jim married his high school sweetheart, Donna Jean Brand, in 1968, and they have a daughter, Tracy, and a son, Tony. They all remained in the Milford area. Donna Mae married Dr. William (Buck) Waters in 1978, and they have two daughters, Carinda and Courtney, and two sons, William and Ryan. Donna and Buck raised their family in the Pensacola area in Florida.

Georgia enjoyed playing games with all seven of her grandchildren - especially bowling with a little set of white plastic pins. Georgia and Roger rented a large house on Pensacola Beach for 2-3 years during spring break for an all-family vacation. They did the same thing during Christmas break to Snowshoe, WV. Georgia never skied, but she cooked for them all. Two of the family’s favorite meals were her ground salmon patties and her breaded pork chops and fried pineapple.

Family and church were most important in Georgia’s life. She and Roger and her three siblings and their spouses would remain close throughout their lives. Those were Eva and Dick Martin, Albert and Betty Kincheloe, and Sam and Annabelle Kincheloe. The four couples all shared their separate 50th anniversary parties. What a testament to their commitment to God and to one another! Together that was over 200 years of marriage - what an inspiring legacy!

Georgia and Roger celebrated their 50th anniversary party on a VERY snowy day in January 1995. All of their children and grandchildren were there. The program included pictures and videos on a big screen with Ed asking questions of several who attended. They shared that their honeymoon was at the Vernon Manor was for 5 days and only cost $18.58. Someone asked Roger if it was snowing on their wedding night like the day of the party. His response was: “I don’t know. We didn’t look out the window.”

Georgia and Roger were both very active in the church. They were named Couple of the Year in 2001. She sang alto in the choir, worked in the nursery, and was treasurer and president of the woman’s group who packed and sent used clothing to missionaries around globe. She was the unofficial nurse for anyone ill or in need of comfort at the church.

When their young pastor, Rev. Brand, was tragically killed in an automobile accident, his wife, Rachelle, couldn’t sleep that night. She phoned and Georgia went immediately to sit with Rachelle and the two young children. She told Georgia when she closed her eyes, all she saw was darkness. Georgia instantly spoke to her the words of Jesus from John 8:12 – “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Georgia said she never memorized that verse so it must have been God speaking through her. Rachelle said she could not rest, but with Georgia there, she did.

Using her nurse’s training, Georgia was always a faithful caregiver to family and neighbors especially as they aged. She lovingly cared for Roger’s parents, Walter and Frances Bright Fisher, who lived across the road from the family. Bright would pass away in 1975 and Walter in 1979 after several strokes.

Running a children’s orphanage for God’s Bible School is what brought Roger’s parents to the Milford area. Roger was born while they ran the facility. Some who were there would remain close to the Fishers, including Florence Whipple and Dan Cohorn who became unofficially “adopted” into the family.

Miss Whipple stayed at the orphanage when she was a young school teacher. Later Roger’s dad built a small house for her on Cook Road. Georgia’s children would call her “Aunt” and she became active in the Mulberry Wesleyan Church as well. Georgia would oversee her health even while in a nursing home in 1961 due to a stroke and then personally after Aunt returned home until her death in 1986. Dan Cohorn was raised at the orphanage and later lived near Roger’s parents. Donna remembers coming home from school one day and Georgia was pulling one of Dan’s teeth. Georgia also looked after him until his death.

Obviously, Georgia also cared for her own dear husband until his health became too fragile from strokes and he went to SEM Haven for the last months of his life. After Roger passed away, Georgia remained faithful at the Mulberry church until her health began to decline. In 2015, she and the family determined it was really not safe for her to continue to live alone.

She then moved to SEM Haven in their Assisted Living Wing. She attended the weekly church service and a regular Bible study with Chaplain Bill. Georgia was elected President of the Resident Council but she became well-known for working math Sudoku puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. Georgia still enjoyed playing games and won several gold medals in SEM’s Senior Olympics. But - everyone knew her favorite activity was Bingo! She often spent some of her winning quarters at the vending machine for snacks. But, when she died, her family found $75 from her winnings at Bingo.

Georgia loved to get cards of all kinds. A dear lifetime friend, Loretta Morris, made her own cards on her computer and sent Georgia more cards then anyone over the years. Georgia loved the pop-up cards that her daughter, Donna, would send on special occasions, and other people began sending those as well.

Georgia received 126 cards that brought her great joy for her 100th birthday in 2022. She thoroughly enjoyed her 100th birthday party with family and friends and visits from others before and after who could not attend the party.

Georgia outlived many of her loved ones, especially her beloved husband, Roger, who preceded her to heaven in 2009 after 64 years of marriage; and their son, Jim, who passed away in July 2023. Georgia shared that grief especially with Susan Rudolph, his spouse, because she knew what loving and wonderful care Susan had given Jim during the painful time, especially the end-stages of his lung cancer.

Georgia’s health began failing earlier in 2024. She was in the hospital two times in March, and ended up in the Rehab Center at SEM Haven where the staff gave her superior care until her death on May 14, 2024. You can find the names of loved ones she left behind in the Obituary.

Roger Fisher’s eulogy closed with the verse from Psalm 116: 15. It is appropriate to use it for Georgia as well. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” It is comforting to know they are now together again and present with Jesus in Heaven.
