Gerald Lewis Chitwood

March 31, 1944 — August 18, 2025

Gerald Lewis Chitwood, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, went to Heaven peacefully on August 18, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on March 31, 1944, in Cincinnati, OH, Jerry was a lifelong resident of his cherished city, where he made unforgettable memories that touched the lives of so many.

Jerry's journey through life was marked by his dedication and hard work. But most of all was Jerry's loyalty to his family and friends. He attended the University of Cincinnati night school while working at R. K. Leblond/ Makino. Those who worked with him for 40 years appreciated his great mind for figures and problem-solving. He was always a leader, the quarterback on the football team, the point guard on the basketball team, and pitcher on the baseball team. He was an amazing athlete, not just because of his physical skills, but because of his mind and coordination. In the Cincinnati Recreation Tag Football League, his team won because they were the most organized and Jerry was the one who organized everything.

Jerry delighted in hitting the links with his family and friends, especially on memorable trips to Callaway Gardens, Myrtle Beach, etc and he treasured extended family picnics.

Watching sports was another source of pleasure for Jerry. From his youth, he watched the Cincinnati Reds, sometimes in person. The Masters was a yearly family TV time and he even took Mimi, Jeff and Blake to Augusta one year! Attending UC Bearcat basketball games when possible and watching on TV- more family times. He was a diehard Bengals fan and enjoyed wearing his orange and black, sharing those games with his family too.

Those who knew him remember his ability to balance a strong work Ethic with a Playful spirit, often laughing and enjoying life with his family, being a silly and entertaining grandpa. Jerry's faith grew over the years and he made sure the Lord Jesus Christ was the guide for his decisions.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Mimi, and their two sons, Jeffrey (Rebecca) Chitwood and Blake (Susie) Chitwood. As Papa, he will be deeply missed by his grandchildren: Payton, Brittany, Ryan, Kalissa, Estrella, Paulina, Landen, Sofia, and Christian, as well as his great-grandchildren: Riley, Henry, Liam, Crew, Caroline, Lawson, Cade and Oliver. Jerry is survived by his brothers Jim and Tom and his sister Dianna. He is preceded in death by his parents: Ronald and Anna Chitwood and his brothers Ron and Bruce.
