Hans M. Ortlepp – born June 23, 1944 in Gotha, Germany, to Alfred and Gerda Ortlepp. Passed away July 10, 2022 at his residence in Miami Township, Clermont County. Beloved husband of Rosanna Ortlepp (nee Roush), Devoted father of Lisa Opferman, Nicole (AJ) Souders, Jennifer Ortlepp, and Christopher (Allyson) Ortlepp; Loving grandfather of Meghan, Noah & Hannah Opferman and Jackson & Everett Ortlepp; Dear brother of Wilfried (Thac) Ortlepp, Richard (Ann) Ortlepp, and the late Patricia Shaver. Hans came to the US with his family when he was 11 years old. He graduated from Hughes High School in 1962; became a naturalized citizen; attended the University of Cincinnati where he earned a BS in electrical engineering. His career included time at Magnavox, Hunkar Laboratories, and GE from which he retired in 2011. As an engineer, he definitely had ‘the knack’ which he generously passed on to his children and grandchildren, along with his enjoyment of golden age Sci Fi stories and B movies. A dyed-in-the-wool DIYer, there were few projects around the house or those involving cars or computers that he wouldn’t tackle himself. If he needed help, he recruited child and spouse assistance, because they were the only people he could count on to follow directions to do it his way. His passion for cars manifested itself in a series of Mustangs, from a ’67 Shelby to a ’01 Mustang GT. His love of cats was reflected in the many pets he had over the years, earning him the title of ‘Kitty Whisperer’. He could connect with cats that no one else could get close to. Among our favorite memories will be the goofy ‘grandpa’ jokes, his special homemade pickles, and no cheese on anything! He was dearly loved and will be sorely missed, but he left a special impression on each of us. No service is planned at this time.
