Army LTC Howard Lee Harris, age 80, of Cincinnati passed December 2, 2021. He was born April 4, 1941 in Fairplay, Missouri the son of Howard J. and Rosalee (nee Tennis) Harris.
Howard was a graduate of Parkview High School and entered the Southwest Minnesota State University . During his time at the university he joined the Army ROTC. In 1963 he joined the US Army, serving 24 years during the Vietnam Era and working himself up to LTC.
Assignments during his career included Professional Schools, CGSC, three tours in the S.E.A., senior Advisor to the Army of Vietnam's Transportation School, the Division Transportation Officer, Operations Officer of both a General Support and the 7th Transportation Groups Airlift Coordinator for movement of people and cargo around the world to support scientists in Antarctica. He completed a M.S. degree in Transportation Management from F.I.T.
He continued membership in the National Defense transportation Association while a Professor of Military Science (R.O.T.C.) at UC from 1984 - 87. For 17 years after retirement he was the Director of Pupil Transportation for all schools in the Cincinnati District.
He is survived by his sons, Howard G. and Thomas E. Harris, grandchildren Harley, Kira Raye, MacKenzie and Lucas Harris. He was preceded in death by his sister, Cathy Lou Harris and brothers Larry G., John J., and Thomas P. Harris.
Visitation Tuesday December 7th 10 AM - 11 AM. Funeral 11 AM. All at Evans Funeral Home 741 Center St. Milford, Ohio. Burial with military honors to follow at Greenlawn Cemetery Milford, Ohio. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association 5211 Madison Rd. Cincinnati, OH 45227.
