Jack E. Burns went to Heaven to be with his Savior on Wednesday, September 22, 2021. Jack, 88, was born at home, a surprise depression baby. He grew up on a farm thirty-two miles north of Detroit, Michigan. He held leadership positions in high school and played sports: basketball, football, and baseball. Jack graduated from high school at sixteen and went to Michigan State University where he graduated with a Degree in Business. After graduation, he fulfilled his ROTC obligation with a two year stint with the Army Signal Corp as a Lieutenant. Jack married Joanne (Gilmore) in 1952, one year before they graduated from college.
Jack was employed by the Kroger Company for ten years after departing from the army. Then he worked in management for Nationwide Paper Company (distribution arm for Champion Paper Company), headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut. Jack retired in 1993, at the age of 60.
Jack's primary interests involved Christian global missions, hunting, and he was a Master Bridge player. He was well traveled in the United States for business, and he and Joanne traveled in Europe and Africa.
Jack was preceded in death by an eight month old daughter, Cindy; his father, James Ezra Burns; his mother, Gertrude (Pierce) Burns; his brother James Burns, Junior; and a sister Faye (Burns) Berry.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Joanne. A son, James Kevin Burns (Norma), two daughters: Pamela Burns Propst (John), Renee Burns Petersen (Dave).
Grandchildren: Krista Propst Clermont (Justin), Julie Propst, Cheryl Propst Dahl (Sam), Linda Propst Bakker (Dirk), Walter Aldana (Vanessa).
Great grandchildren: Josiah, Micah, Levi, Keilah Clermont; Lila, Aaron, Simeon, Caroline Dahl; Abigail, Amanda, Ava Bakker; Andrew Aldana.
Memorial service to be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021, 10: 00 A.M. at Faith Bible Church, 8130 E. Kemper Road, Montgomery, Ohio. A brunch reception with the family will follow the service.
