James Patrick Cafferky, a beloved teacher, devoted family man, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on March 8, 1936, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Jim experienced a life rich with purpose, love, and laughter. He resided in Milford, Ohio, where he spent his years nurturing countless minds as a dedicated educator at Sycamore High School.
An Army veteran, Jim proudly served as a Private First Class after enlisting on July 9, 1959, and was honorably discharged on June 12, 1961. His commitment to service was matched only by his passion for teaching, a calling he embraced wholeheartedly. Jim earned his master’s degree from Xavier University, a testament to his dedication to education and personal growth.
Jim’s love for sports was legendary; he was a die-hard fan of the Xavier Musketeers, Cincinnati Bengals and Cincinnati Reds. His enthusiasm extended beyond the playing field; he was known as an avid reader and a golfing enthusiast who cherished the thrill of both competition and camaraderie. Traveling fueled his spirit, as he embarked on many adventures, creating lasting memories with family and friends.
A gentle soul, Jim was affectionately remembered as a "truly nice guy"—always friendly, funny, and calm in the face of life’s challenges. His greatest joy came from his role as a grandfather to Brendan, Madeline, and Audrey, whose laughter and happiness filled his heart with immense pride.
James is survived by his beloved wife, Phyllis Cafferky, and his daughters, Susan (Russ) Farlow, Elizabeth (Todd) Minehardt, and Sarah (Brad) Harrell. He leaves behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and kindness that will forever resonate within the hearts of all who knew him.
