James H. Mahaney (Jim), 83, of Milford, OH passed away peacefully on May 9, 2025. Born in Tanner, WV, he graduated 3rd from the Tanner High School 1959 class where he was a star basketball and baseball player. He graduated from Glenville State University where he continued proudly supporting the women's basketball team, especially during the Kim Caldwell era.
Jim taught school for 3 years before spending the rest of his work years with South-Western Publishing Company, working his way up to Vice President. Old Haney of Big Run had an unofficial career as a jokester and comedian.
His illustrious sports career continued by coaching his children's football, baseball and softball teams, and was the head cheerleader for his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was the voice of the Friday Night Milford Eagles Football Team for over 20 years. He was a great winner and loved playing Rook with his family, Euchre with his work family, and Casino with his wife. He rounded out his sports career with the creation of the Miami Township chair volleyball program, winning many championships and cherishing the friendships he made there.
He was predeceased by his parents, W.A. (Bill) and Mabel Mahaney, son James (Jamie), brother Richard, sister Kathryn, brother-in-law Kenny, sister Sammy Metz, and nephew Gregory Metz.
Jim is survived by his loving teenage bride Carolyn of 61.5 years, son Richard, daughter Jennifer Van Roekel (Tim), daughter-in-law Tracy Mahaney, grandchildren Jessica Greany (Kevin), Ryan, Brandon, and Jakub Mahaney, Nick and Alex Tomondy, Sophie and Josie Van Roekel, Chelsea Harmer (John), great grandchildren Michael and Jonathan Greany, and Riley James Mahaney.
His request for cremation and no service has been honored. His ashes will be interred later at Bethlehem Cemetery, Grantsville, WV.
