James Nathan Sumner

James “Jim” Nathan Sumner passed away peacefully on September 28, 2023, at the age of 88 surrounded by his loved ones. He was the beloved husband of Marjorie (nee Duchemin) Sumner, loving father of Michael Sumner (Bing Shang), Brad (Kelli) Sumner, and Chris (Cheri) Sumner, cherished grandfather of Evan (Lyndsey) Sumner, and Cami, Peter, Lily, Maddie, and Olivia Sumner, and dear brother of Patsy Sumner, Betty Wright, and Peggy Hoskins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Hilda (nee Schaufert) Sumner, his twin sister Mary Lou Stewart, brother Eddie Sumner, and grandson Jacob Sumner.

Jim was born and grew up in southwestern Ohio, calling Owensville his hometown for most of his life. He served in the Air Force in the mid-fifties. He then had a long career with GE Aircraft Engines, retiring in 1991. Throughout this time, he also farmed and raised cattle before finding his passion for raising Percheron draft horses, which he and Marge continued for many years after his retirement. He also enjoyed attending many events to watch his children and grandchildren in whatever endeavors they were pursuing. He was an enthusiastic supporter of Milford First United Methodist Church and enjoyed many activities with good friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Evans Funeral Home, 741 Center Street, Milford OH 45150. Masonic Services and Scottish Rite Ring Service will begin at 8:00 PM. The funeral will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Milford First United Methodist Church, 541 Main Street, Milford OH 45150.
