Jerome J. Hoffman

HOFFMAN, Jerome "Jerry" - Beloved husband of the late Ginnie Hoffman(nee Niehaus) and loving father of the late Linda Hoffman who died at only 3 and a half years of age. Dear brother of the late Dick Hoffman, and the late Tom Hoffman. Jerry passed away on December 10, 2019 at the age of 89, one day prior to his birthday. He is survived by his loving companion Patsy Scott, and many nieces and nephews.

Jerry was a graduate of St. Xavier High School where he was class president both his junior and senior years. He then went to Xavier University where he graduated cum laude in 1952, then served in the armed forces for two years shortly after graduation. Upon his discharge in 1954, he worked for the Hartford Insurance Company for six years, three of which were spent as a field representative traveling to 65 counties in Kentucky from his home in Lexington where his daughter was born.

In 1972, Jerry started his own insurance agency, grew it to be a highly successful agency and took "early" retirement at the age of 83. Following his retirement, he volunteered for Hospice of Cincinnati Inc., serving breakfast and lunch to patients at the Anderson location. Jerry was a member of the Father Finn Society at Xavier University and he also established a scholarship fund at Xavier University for worthy students who could not otherwise afford tuition. He was an usher at All Saints Catholic Church for 50 years and served one year as general chairman of the All Saints Summer Festival.

Jerry was an avid runner starting at age 47. he ran multiple 5k, 10K, 15K and half marathon races before finally running the Flying Pig Marathon at the age of 73. He ran fast enough to qualify for the Boston Marathon, ran it the following year as well as two years later, at which time he was one of only seven Boston Marathon male runners that year that year over the age of 75. He continued to actively participate in marathons through the summer of 2019.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at All Saints Catholic Church 8939 Montgomery Road Cincinnati, OH 45236, Wednesday, December 18, 2019 from 9:30 Am until time of Mass at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow Mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be sent in Jerry's honor to the Jerry and Ginnie Hoffman Scholarship Fund at Xavier University or All Saints Catholic Church or Hospice of Cincinnati.
