Jerome E. Poynter

May 30, 1940 — March 5, 2017

Jerome E. Poynter, 76, died on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at his home in Batavia, Ohio, trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ who promised him, and all believers, "I go to prepare a place for you; and if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and take you to myself, that where I am, you may be also." (John 14)

Jerome was born May 30, 1940 in Corbin, Kentucky, the son of Elmer and Cleta (Russell) Poynter. God made Jerome His son through Faith and Holy Baptism on June 10, 1973 at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cincinnati, receiving the gifts of forgiveness, life, and salvation. Jerome was also confirmed this day affirming his conviction in the Christian faith as it is rightly taught by The Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Most of Jerome's childhood was spent on River Rd. and in the community of North Fairmount (Cincinnati). He attended grade school at Carll Street Elementary and graduated from Central High School (Courter Technical High School) with a vocational degree in Printing. With the many technological changes in the printing industry during the mid-1960s, Jerome moved on to be hired by Herbert Chemical Co. (now Univar) in 1966. He retired there after 39 years of service in 2005. He married Florence Broge on July 7, 1962 at Concordia Lutheran Church (downtown) in Cincinnati. This July would have marked their 55th wedding anniversary.

Surviving is his wife, two sons, Michael and (Julie) Poynter of Batavia, Ohio; Steven Poynter and (Adrienne Morgan) of Amelia, Ohio, and four grandchildren, Amanda, Sarah, Paul, and Naomi. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Willard and Ken, three sisters, Ruth Engle, Helen Bill, and Alma Christen, and one Daughter-in-Law Rachel.

Jerome was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Milford, Ohio. Jerome enjoyed golfing, cars, and conversation. He also enjoyed his time with his grandchildren and the reunions with his extended family.

Jesus loved Jerome as a son, redeemed him with His precious blood and brought him to saving faith by the gracious workings of the Holy Spirit through His Word and Sacraments. Then last Sunday morning, with great joy, Christ presented Jerome faultless before the presence of His glory. (Jude 24).
