February 21, 1937 — February 26, 2017

J. B. (Jim) Tarter, age 80 years and 5 days, longtime resident of Goshen Township, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 26, 2017. He was born in Russell County Kentucky on February 21, 1937, the son of Zenith V. Tarter and Mary Ann Tarter (nee Wilson). Jim was a graduate of Norwood High School, and a retired electrical control system designer. Jim was an avid conservationist and sportsman from his boyhood, enjoying hunting, fishing, camping, canoeing and bird watching. Jim was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Glen Este where he served as a Deacon. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years Elsie J. Tarter (nee Butler). He was the loving father of Cynthia "Cyndi" (David) Volz, Connie Irene Tarter and James B. "Jay" (Kathy) Tarter Jr.; devoted "Pappaw" to Nema Shepherd, David M. Volz, Amy Springer, Kara Volz Russell, James B. "Jim" Tarter and Julee Lowhorn; Great Grandfather to Shelby Shepherd, Zoey Volz, Simon Volz and Tobin Moisan. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, as well as his sister, Eunema Morgan, and his brother Robert Joseph Tarter. Visitation will be Friday March 3rd from 10:00 AM until time of the funeral service at 12:00 noon. Both visitation and the funeral are at the First Baptist Church of Glen Este, 1034 Old St. Rt. 74, Batavia, OH 45103. Burial will follow at Goshen Cemetery in Goshen, OH. Jim requested that memorial contributions be made to Bearing Precious Seed, a ministry of the First Baptist Church of Milford OH, 1369 Woodville Pike, Milford, OH 45150 (513 575 1706).
