It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Joan Benhase, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished community member, who left us peacefully on December 16, 2025, at the age of 94. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Joan dedicated her life to her family, her community, and her passions.
Joan shared 68 wonderful years of marriage with her devoted husband, embodying the strength of a loving partnership. Together they navigated life's journeys, frequently gracing the dance floor with their lively square dancing and dancing to big band music, a testament to their love and joy for one another. Her influence extended beyond her family, as she actively engaged with the Milford community, always finding ways to give back and inspire those around her.
As a leader for the Brownies, Girl Scouts, and Cub Scouts, Joan's commitment to nurturing the spirits of young individuals was unparalleled. She served as PTA president for both Deer Park and Milford schools. Joan also made her mark as a writer, contributing a weekly column to the Milford Advertiser newspaper, where her words resonated with readers and reflected her vibrant personality and keen observations of life. A passionate Elvis fan, her infectious enthusiasm brought joy and laughter to family gatherings, where music and memories intertwined. In her later years she discovered the four tenors of Il Divo.
Joan's great love for her family was evident in everything she did-she cherished her role as a mother, thoroughly enjoyed being a grandmother, and embraced every moment with her great-grandchildren. She will be remembered fondly for her strength of will and her unwavering support and encouragement for those she loved.
