Joan K. Eklund

On Saturday September 14th, 2019, Joan Eklund, loving wife and mother of three, passed away at the age of 84.

Joan was born on December 31, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan to Alice and Alfred Kingerley. On October 23, 1954, Joan married Dave Eklund after only a one-month courtship. They celebrated over 64 years of marriage together. They raised three sons, Dave, Jeff, and Steve.

For the first years of their marriage, Joan was a homemaker, raising 3 boys. She would later to work for the American Greeting Card Company and the Cleveland Metropolitan Housing Authority for over 10 years starting in 1987. During these years Joan went back to get her Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Cleveland State University. She graduated Cum Laude in 1983 at the age of 49.

In 1997, Joan and Dave moved to Cincinnati to live with their youngest son, daughter-in-law, and 3 grandchildren. Dave and Joan began attending Faith Church after the move. The members embraced them. This community was one of the highlights of her life.

Joan began teaching a bible study that has now become famous over the years at Faith Church. Her love for the word of God was evident and she loved to read great books.

Joan loved music and was an avid piano player. For a season she would accompany her son Steve while taking trumpet lessons and it gave them both much joy.

Joan was preceded in death by her father and mother, Alfred and Alice, and two of her sons, Dave and Jeff. She is survived by his son, Steve, her grandchildren (Little David, Stacey, Cindy, Jessica, Rachel, Zac, and Shiloh) and great grandchildren (Will, Luke, Blake, Zander, Tae, Cole and Samantha). A funeral service will be held at Faith Church 5910 Price Road Milford, OH 45150 on Thursday, September 19th with a visitation from 6:00pm to 7:00pm and funeral will be from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.
