WHALEN Joan L., 91, began her eternal life with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at her residence in Milford, OH. A beloved wife for 50 years of the late James J. Whalen, she was a devoted mother of Tim (Patty) Whalen, Amy (Mike) Mason, Nanette (Bill) Brothers, Lisa Russell, Mark (Anna Maria) Whalen, James T. (Cheryl) Whalen, John (Amber) Whalen M.D., and the late Mary (Tony) Rice, grandmother of Jacob (Angela), Shannon (Jessie), Luke (Mieke), Melissa (Baruc), Kassie (Jake), Kelly (Eric), Kristen (Chris), Steven, Cody (Mathew), Billy, Brock, Sean, April (Jason), Mark (Aubrey), Catherine (David), Samantha, Jake, Nicholas, Natalie, Brady, Ali, Zachary (Emma), Jeremy, and the late Ross, great grandmother of 14, dear sister of the late Thomas Herbert, and loving daughter of the late Edward and Elvira Herbert.
An active practitioner of the Catholic faith, she was a daily communicant for 45 years, supported countless baptismal, educational, and community prayer efforts, while acting as an Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister on a weekly basis to multiple nursing homes for decades. Her selflessness, love, dedication, and kindness will be forever missed by her family and the community.

Mass of Christian Burial to be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Milford, Thursday, July 13, at 11 A.M. with gravesite service immediately following for family and friends.
