It is with great sorrow that the family of Joseph J. Lieber announces his passing on 10/11/24, at the age of 93. Joe had a long and happy life with his wife of 62 years, Pat (Huhn). Together they raised 3 children Teri Lieber, Joe "Andy" Lieber - deceased and Kathy Lansberry (Lieber). He also leaves behind his daughter-in-law Ruth (Dries), son-in-law Tim Lansberry and son of his heart Dan Olcott. He will be missed by his beloved Grandchildren Matt and Hope Lieber and the Grandchildren of his heart Madeleine Roberts (Lansberry), Ben Olcott, and Emily Graumlich, and his great-granddaughter Genevive Roberts. Many other family & friends will miss his presence.
Joe was a devout Catholic who served on parish councils, was a lector of the liturgy, and a eucharistic minister, most recently at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish in Milford. Joe also volunteered for over 25 years as a visiting eucharistic minister for Bethesda North Hospital and spent many years with the Saint Vincent de Paul Society delivering food.
Joe proudly served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Marine Corps during the Korean war. He was very humbled to be asked to join an Honor Flight for veterans where he was able to visit Washington DC to tour the memorials with other Veterans. You would frequently see him wearing his Honor Flight cap or his "Once a Marine, Aways a Marine" cap with a pin that said "Not as lean, Not as mean, But still a Marine" to show his pride.
Joe spent nearly 50 years in the industrial thread industry, in various roles. You could find his products in flags, clothing, furniture, cable lines, camping gear, saddles and even as part of the space program. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge and experience with his clients so they could produce the best products possible.
Joe grew up in Bronx NY with his parents Joseph and Edna and sister Joan, along with his extended family either living in the same house or next door. His parents were both professionals and he referred to himself as one of the original latch key kids. Joe attended All Hallows high school & graduated from St. John's University with a marketing degree. He always said the Bronx was a good place to come from, but he didn't ever want to move back. Instead, he traveled extensively for work, as well as being transferred 5 times to different states, spent almost every vacation camping, visited 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Closer to his retirement, Pat and he would travel to Europe, Central America, Canada and the Caribbean.
Joe didn't make it to his goal of living to 100, but he had a good long life filled with love, friends, family, many blessings and much laughter. He appreciated every day he had and tried to make everyone he met smile. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends at Traditions and his nightly cocktail. As he always said, he was Lucky Lieber, and he was, but the most important thing to remember is that Joe Lieber was a very good man.
In celebrating Joe's life, his family will receive friends at St. Elizabeth Seton Church on Saturday, Oct. 19th from 9:30 AM until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial that will begin at 10:30 AM. The burial with military honors will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Following the committal services, a celebration of Joe's life will be held the Madeira Senior Center located at Traditions at Camargo. 7650 Camargo Rd. Madeira, OH 45243.
