It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Joseph Ray Rankin Jr., affectionately known as Joey, who left us on November 2, 2026. Born on January 8, 2005, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Joseph R. Rankin and Tuesday N. Harrison. Joey lived a vibrant life, where he touched the hearts of all who knew him.

Joey was a beacon of joy and laughter, with a personality that lit up every room he entered. He had an innate ability to connect with others, never knowing a stranger, and his warm hugs and infectious smile will be deeply missed. Joey loved to sing and dance, often lighting up gatherings with his rendition of "Sexy and I Know It" by LMFAO and his heartfelt performances of Luke Bryan's songs. Meeting Luke was one of the highlights of his life, an experience he cherished deeply. He was also passionate about playing his guitar, often using his microphone to share his love for music with those around him.

Joey cherished his time spent with family, especially his cousins, creating memories that would last a lifetime. He also held a special affection for his pets, including "Brucee" the Snake and his bearded dragon, which further showcased his loving and vibrant personality.

Despite being diagnosed with Juvenile Batten Disease in April 2013, Joey never allowed his condition to define him. He faced challenges with remarkable strength and resilience, inspiring others with his positive outlook on life. His sense of humor and unyielding spirit epitomized the love and joy he brought to the world.

Joey is survived by his loving parents Joseph R. Rankin and Tuesday (Justin Croley) Harrison; Cherished grandson of Mamaw Terri, Nicky Baker, and Steve Rankin; Dear brother of Carson Rankin, Landon Rankin, Summer Rankin, McKinzie Rankin, and Kane Croley; Step-brother of Brooklyn Wilson, Aiden Croley, Cameron Croley, and Gage Croley. Nephew to Benjamin (Sarah Hammons) Harrison, Julie Harrison, Christina (Dale) Kane, Jason Rankin, Justin Rankin, and Joshua Rankin. Cherished uncle of Joseph Ray Rankin. Dear cousin to Tauras Harrison, Chloe Harrison, Benji Harrison, River Leadman, Isla Leadman, Neko Jackson, Derek Jackson, Destinee Workman, and Blake Kuechler. He is also survived by many other family members, caregivers, and dear friends.

Joey is preceded in death by two grandfathers: Elmer Harrison and Ronnie Reese.
