Roa

Saturday
St. Andrew Catholic Church
10:00 - 11:00 am (Eastern time)
Joyce A. Roa, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2026, at the age of 85. She was born on June 6, 1941, in Cincinnati, Ohio, where she was raised by her mother and grandparents, and where she went on to raise her own family.
Joyce is survived by her cherished children, Michael (Mary Beth) Roa, Mary (Tony) Roa-Schad, and Stephany (Terry) Roa-Beckett. Her legacy lives on in her adored grandchildren: Brendan Roa, Alex Roa, Maggie (Fields Stallworth) Schad, Andrew (Natalie) Schad, and Olivia (Matt) Gump, along with her dear great-grandchildren, Amelia and Barrett Stallworth and Cooper Schad, and her friend Tom Roa. Joyce found immense joy in nurturing her family and took great pride in the accomplishments and happiness of her loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Maxwell and her dear friend, Sarah Gramse.
"Vandy" as she was called by her friends, was a very caring person who could make her your friend within minutes of meeting her. She always stood up for anyone who was mistreated and not being respected. She was always active in her community marching in the protests for Civil Rights, working at The Community Action Agency and being a leader in the Girls Scouts and Boy Scouts. She led by example and taught her children and grandchildren compassion and the difference between right and wrong.
Her yard and garden were her pride and joy. A love which she passed on to her grandchildren, along with many plants. She had a green thumb and would spend hours working in her yard and cursing the small critters that would snack on the many fruits and vegetables she grew.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in honor of Joyce's life on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 10:00 am at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Milford, Ohio.
Joyce was an amazing person who made the world a better place and her legacy will remain in the hearts of her family and friends, as they gather to celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the love she shared. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire those she left behind.
