Kenneth Wesley Deem
Age 84, died peacefully with hospice care on July 3, 2023
Ken was born on October 20, 1938 to Gladys B.(Mason) Deem and Norman K. Deem (both deceased) in Parkersburg WV.
He married Carol (Bowen Platt), in Cincinnati OH on March 16, 1989.
He enjoyed a 31-year long, loving marriage to his beloved Carol until her death in 2020.
Ken is survived by: his sister, Jodelle F. Deem; children from his first marriage, Lisa Ann (Deem) Paul and Steven Kenneth Deem; and Carol’s four children, Lisa (Platt) Tabtabai, David Platt, Stephen Platt and Shelly (Platt) Gottlieb.
Ken graduated from Parkersburg High School, where he played the trombone in the 1955 National Championship Big Red Marching Band. Ken extended his love of music by lending his wonderful bass voice to choirs in Parkersburg and Cincinnati.
Ken was an member of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) Troop 5 Parkersburg, achieving Eagle Scout rank. His early love of model railroads led to a lifelong passion for anything railroad-related. His high school days also fueled his love of automobiles and racing.
He graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a B.S. in chemical engineering. During his 35+ year career, Ken traveled while designing significant solutions and managing projects across processing applications for Cincinnati firms, A.M. Kinney Inc. and Process Plus Group.
His years with Carol found him volunteering, playing bridge, traveling, and socializing with their many friends. Ken regularly found his way to any Skyline Chili and his favorite local Thai restaurant as often as possible.
Ken’s loving smile, humor, kind heart, and positive approach to living a good and giving life will be cherished by all who loved him dearly.
